I created Nela Creative with creativity in mind.
As a 1st Gen Latina, art was a career choice that scared me to the core. A lot of us do not have the luxury to choose a different career that isn't one of the big four (lawyer, doctor, engineer, scientist), and some don't have the space or resources to explore and create.
Creativity is a word that does not only exist in the art world. I want to help aid others is sparking their creativity and embracing it.
I want to help provide safe spaces that allow us to explore who we are and what we want without judgment, even if that is just a journal where you can write all of your thoughts and aspirations.
I have always had a passion for art but did not fully pursue it until after I graduated from college. I had a degree in Criminal Justice and realized that this was not what I was meant to do. It was a scary jump to make especially since I had a toddler depending on me but I made it with the help of my family and friends. Art always fascinated me and I loved creating something out of nothing. I wanted to inspire others to embrace their creativity and have fun like I was finally allowing myself to do.
Then one day I thought, what's one way I can share some of the happiness that art gives me? So I decided to open my own business! Keep in mind that this was in 2021 during the pandemic... but I didn'yt let it stop me.
It started off with me drawing my family and friends and then random people on TikTok! I started making stickers for my sorority and opened my Etsy shop in December of 2022. Then took a short break to focus on my mental health, son and my art degree. Learned a new hobby, and rebranded completely. Trust me, the rebranding was needed! Bookbinding became a craft that I love so I started making journals and reopened my shop in 2023! Now I sell handmade journals, stickers and hopefully so much more!
